How does it work?

Workshops normally run over 5 weeks, typically on a Monday or Tuesday night for a couple of hours per session.

For newcomers to comedy we begin by getting to know each other and right from week 1 you’ll have the chance to be on your feet in front of the microphone. The quicker you get used to this feeling, the better.

Early on we cover tips on writing, then you’re off and running (or writing actually).

In the gaps between workshops you’re encouraged to develop new material and the ‘stage time’ increases each week, allowing plenty of opportunity to run out your new ideas. Sometimes we do group feedback, with everyone chipping in. This is especially useful in developing new lines of material and enhancing what you already have.

At some stage during the programme I take time out to give one to one coaching and feedback on everyone’s performance.

Week by week this process helps you build a 7 minute set. Before you know it, it’s showtime and you’re up there on stage making them laugh!

Beyond this, it’s up to you. Some people are happy to have achieved their goal, others want to move it on to another level. You can sign up again for another beginners class, or step up a gear to the advanced ‘graduate’ programme.
